The old crepe restaurant at 2861 Granville will soon be replaced by Heirloom Juice Co., an off-shoot of the Heirloom Vegetarian eatery nearby at 1509 West 12th. The food/drink menu is being designed by chef Samantha Dixon and will see six paninis and six salads, plus a mix of smoothies, macerated juices, and cold-pressed juices.
We recently took a look inside the 1,200 sqft South Granville space with owners Gus and Cassandra Greer, Yogi Johl, and Geoff Weddell. Though it was completely bare it was easy enough to imagine it draped in the fresh, simple Heirloom aesthetic, complete with pendant lights and bright splashes of colour.
“People are consciously choosing to eat well”, says Weddell. “We don’t see that as a trend”, he adds, likening the concept to a healthy “grab and go” alternative to fast food. There will be a handful of seats at a counter, but the concept is take-out, which is to say there won’t be any booze. If all goes according to plan, they will be opening their doors before Labour Day.
