Gyoza King

Gyoza King | Restaurant | A casual Japanese eatery located at 1508 Robson Street. Once upon a time (in the 2000s) it was the go-to place for restaurant industry workers looking for a delicious, cheap and cheerful food experience with beer after work. The boisterous, late night eatery closed in the autumn of 2017 after 24 years in operation. According to plans submitted for the address, it – and the three storefronts just east of it – could soon be replaced by a 21-storey rental apartment building (see below).

Usage: “If ever a moment of silence was deservedly observed in the restaurant world, it was when Gyoza King closed…”

Closed in the autumn of 2017, this Japanese eatery was an after hours magnet to the new wave of cooks and industry staffers that helped re-define Vancouver’s food scene in the early 2000’s.
