Snowpocalypse | Hyperbole, Slang | A dramatic (and sometimes not even remotely ironic) means of describing a snowfall in Vancouver. The term is commonly used across North America but here it is employed irrespective of accumulation, so both in the wake of major snowstorms and flurries where the white stuff doesn’t even stick to the ground. A linguistic testament to any (or all) of the following:

a.) Vancouver’s unfamiliarity with snow
b.) Vancouver’s tendency to overreact and perceive crises in calm
c.) Vancouver’s lack of confidence in its snow removal regime
d.) Vancouver’s quickness to make light of its own faults

The term is interchangeable with the equally hyperbolic “Snowmageddon”.

Usage: “Despite the snowpocalypse, what snowballs could be made had to be used twice.”
