Facadism | Idea | Scout contributor Sean Orr is pretty certain that he invented the word “facadism”. It’s used to describe Vancouver’s penchant for trying to be something it is not. Examples include the Steam Clock which doesn’t run on steam, Blood Alley which was never called Blood Alley, the fake flagstones of Gastown, the Eye of the Wind turbine, and the practice of saving only the facades of heritage buildings.
Usage: “After all that fuss, the Woodwards development was just more Vancouver facadism.”
