Cow Shit Alley | Place/Route | In the early part of the last century, it was still common for residents in many parts of the city to keep livestock – chickens, goats, rabbits and even cows. In Strathcona, the laneway between Prior and Union from Jackson to Hawkes was known locally (and entirely colloquially) as Cow Shit Alley. It was the route along which the neighbourhood cows were taken to graze at the False Creek Flats. Each morning, the cows were herded from their barns down Cow Shit Alley to the area we now know as Strathcona Park (near the old city dump) to graze on the grass before returning home in each evening.
Usage | “You can still see the remains of the old cow barns along Cow Shit Alley in Strathcona…”
