B.C.E.R.

vancouver-BCEbrill10t

B.C.E.R. | Company | The British Columbia Electric Railway operated the tram system known as the Interurban, the streetcar network, and later the bus system. It was a precursor to BC Transit, and pivotal in the early development of Greater Vancouver. Its demise in 1958 in what it called “Rails To Rubber” can be considered a factor in the decline of the DTES and a casualty of car culture. The downtown depot was at Pender and Carrall, and it still features the B.C.E.R. mascot, Reddy Kilowatt.

Usage | “The SkyTrain sucks. We should have never got rid of the B.C.E.R.”
