This Was One of the Most Influential Restaurants in Vancouver’s History

The ever-evolving Restaurant Graveyard series looks back at the countless, long-shuttered establishments that helped to propel Vancouver’s food and drink forward. Full A-Z with maps and photos here. May they never be forgotten!

“C” Restaurant was an ambitious, multiple award-winning local seafood restaurant located at the end of Howe Street on the False Creek seawall from 1997 to 2014. Owned by savvy, hands-on restaurateur Harry Kambolis, the game-changing fine dining icon helped put Vancouver’s emerging food scene on the map by garnering attention and accolades from the world’s most esteemed food and travel publications.

Over the years it employed many talented chefs and front of house legends, among them Robert Belcham, Rob Clark, Ted Anderson, Quang Dang, Sean Cousins, JC Poirier, Cate Simpson, Annette Rawlinson, Tom Doughty, Michael Dinn and Leonard Nakonechny, to name just a handful. As the founding restaurant partner of the Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program, its impact and memory echoes in the nightly services of countless Vancouver establishments.

It is now home to a Peruvian-inspired fine dining restaurant (of comparable deliciousness) called Ancora.
