Spring Pie-Making Workshop Coming Up at The Pie Shoppe

Vancouver, BC | Come join us Wednesday, May 23rd, for an evening of pie baking! Together we’ll chat about spring fruit, sugars, starches, perfecting flaky crust, and make a seasonal fruit pie from our menu at a time when the markets are just beginning to bursting at the seems. We’ll be working with locally grown organic fruit and locally milled West Coast grain. We will be using the local fresh fruit and preparing all the fillings from scratch for our pies. While the pies are baking, we will have some snacks and drinks. Nibbles & drinks included!

This workshop is perfect for preparing dessert pie for the anticipated spring season. You will also learn about making a good pastry dough, crumbles and custards for pie making and pastry techniques. Everyone will walk away with a whole pie they have made, tips, and maybe a few new friends.

    TOPICS COVERED:

    – Spring fruit & preparing fruit for a pie from scratch!
    – Flakey pie crust (All butter vs. shortening)
    – The best fruits for pie filling.
    – Understanding natural pectin, starches and sugars.
    – How to work with organic flours, fats, oils,
    – Creating decorative edges and tops with pie dough
    – Expressing yourself through pie.

    WHEN: Wednesday, May 23rd from 6pm to 9pm

    WHERE: At the new Pie Shoppe (map below). We are located in the middle of the city. Class size is limited to 10-12 folks. You will be provided with aprons, rolling pins, a pie plate and tasty eats. Workshops will involve wheat flour. Our space is not gluten free, nor is any of the snacks we provide. Keep in mind our kitchen is really small, so this workshop will be very intimate and cozy.
