Tiny Living Legend Lloyd Kahn In Town To Talk ‘Small Homes’ Tonight (May 23)

by Thalia Stopa | In general, Vancouverites don’t need much convincing that small and economical living spaces are the wave of the future. What we may not realize, though, is the scope of imaginative possibilities for said humble abodes. Fortunately for us, tonight (May 23), we can expand our minds and pay our respects to one of the original proponents of green living and architecture, Lloyd Kahn, who is on tour for his latest book, Small Homes: The Right Size. The book features 65 abodes ranging from the purely practical to awesomely inspiring, all measuring only 400-1200 sqft in size.

For those not familiar, Kahn is much more than a writer; he’s also a builder, photographer, publisher (Small Homes was published in April by his company, Shelter Publications) and icon. For about half a century, the Californian visionary has been a strident advocate for creative small-living spaces, but even the 82-year-old himself admits that his ideas are relevant now, more than ever. You can hear all about the movement and the genius creators profiled in Small Homes directly from the man himself on Tuesday, when Kahn presents his free slideshow at the VPL’s Central Branch.
