On May 28th, Burnaby’s Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre will be hosting its eighth annual BLOOM art party and silent auction. Skytrain yourselves out for a stellar Saturday night of art, music, and the chance to outbid your fellow guests. The theme of this year’s auction is “ink” so you can expect to see a variety of diverse artworks from over sixty contemporary and traditional artists. There will also be ink scroll stations, grub from Open Sesame, a live shodo calligraphy performance, and DJ Rennie Foster to have you boppin’ your head from piece to piece. Bonus: most of the artists will be there themselves, so it should prove to be a fascinating evening all around. Expect to see works from:

Michael Abe, Mariko Ando, Diyan Achjadi, Miriam Aroeste, Rachael Ashe, Anita Bhatia, Taiga Chiba, Ted Colyer, Christopher Dahm, Miki Dare, Leanne Dunic, Cindy Fang, John Ferrie, Hitomi Fukui, Zoe Garred – Fleet Objects, Yoriko Gillard, Lori Goldberg, Miko Hoffman – Coral + Cloud, Sally Hutcheon, Yuriko Iga – Blim, Tomoyo Ihaya, Aya Ikeda-Barry, Keith Ikeda-Barry, Shima Itabashi, Toshiaki Nick Kanaya, Kaori Kasai – Sleepless Kao, Jace Junggyu Kim, Roy Kiyooka, Allison Koberstein, Tsuneko Kokubo, Catrina Megumi Longmuir, Marko, Jennifer Jean Tazewell Mawby, Merry Meredith, Cindy Mochizuki, Corey Moraes, David Morgan, Sarah Mousseau, Raymond Nakamura, Christina Norberg, Michael Nardachioni, Natalie Purschwitz, Terry Sasaki, Kathy Shimizu, Miyuki Shinkai, Claire Sower, Jeremy Isao Speier, Jeff Chiba Stearns, Candie Tanaka, M. Tateishi, Taka Sudo – Tifdyl, Bob Suzuki, Takao Tanabe, Nao Uda, Yvonne Wakabayashi, Arleigh Wood, Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, Sachi Yamabe, Taizo Yamamoto, Clare Yow, Teodora Zamfirescu, Tasha Zimich.

All works were donated to the Nikkei and all proceeds go to supporting the museum and keeping its awesome cultural programs alive. Feel good about taking home some art or bidding on those silent auction prizes and doing something to help a Lower Mainland institution worthy of your bucks. A preview of the artwork will be posted here today (May 17th).
