There’s a crew of talents opening a dedicated ramen joint at 140-16th Street West in North Vancouver later this Spring. Brother-sister owners Stephen Naito and Brooke Campbell hope to have Hachiro Ramen Bar open next month.

To help fulfill their vision, they have brought together Simcic + Uhrich Architects, Harmony Pacific Projects, The Fifteen Group and Shaun Layton. Such a start-up assembly is definitely worth noting, but the real reason to be excited here is the prospect of ramen in North Vancouver. I mean…finally.

To my knowledge (and I could be wrong here), Hachiro will be the first dedicated ramen bar in the municipality. Though I live on the opposite side of the water, I know how big a deal this will be to ramen lovers across the North Shore.

Brooke says the vision “is to create a relaxed/comfortable atmosphere to slurp some noodles and if the night calls for it, have some tasty cocktails and tapas, similar to an izakaya.” If they nail the product, the off-Lonsdale location should do a brisk trade.

When she and Stephen launch their 40 seater (with a 12 seat patio) it will have been a very long time coming. They took possession of the space in January of 2018 with plans to serve Kyushu-style tonkotsu ramen and their own vegetarian style of ramen, but there were a couple of setbacks during the build. I’m told all is on track now for a late April opening.
