Get Hands-On at a ‘Butchery 101’ Workshop on September 23rd

If you’re a home cook in the habit of tacking on a new skill to your repertoire every Fall season – or, want to start doing just that – then consider signing up for the one-day-only ‘Butchery 101’ workshop at Two Rivers Specialty Meats next Tuesday, September 23rd.

Organized by the rad women of Bad Academy and She Summits, this 90-minute workshop will be devoted to the art of butchering your chicken, as instructed by Taryn Barker, Head Butcher and owner of Port Moody’s The Little Butcher shop. Besides your ready-to-be-cooked freshly butchered bird, you’ll also leave with some valuable know-how and ideas about how to make the most out of every bit of it in your own kitchen.

The price of the workshop ($125) includes: all of the necessary materials and expert guidance; your very own whole bird; sweet and savoury snacks, plus a couple of drinks to enjoy; and a $10 gift card to use on your next Two Rivers visit. Also: one lucky participant will walk away with new set of knives from House of Knives, which on their own are worth nearly twice the cost of registration. How sweet would that be?

Since space at Butchery 101 is super limited (last we checked there were only eight spots remaining!) your odds of winning are high…but so is the risk that this will fill up in advance! The butchering begins at 6:30pm on Tuesday, September 23rd. Claim your spot here now. (Take note: this is a women- and gender-non-comforming-only class. Sorry-not-sorry guys!)

WHY WE CARE

Learning new kitchen skills is an empowering feeling; gaining the knowledge to butcher your own meat so you can flex it over the holiday season is especially well-timed. Whether you’re a regular or occasional meat-eater, snatching up the opportunity to be more connected with the food you eat should be a priority whenever feasible. Unfortunately, it’s not a luxury that everyone can afford – we acknowledge that the cost of eating ethically raised animals and shelling out for a cooking workshop is not cheap. However, if you can shell out the $125 price tag to participate in this workshop, we think that adding another skill to your dossier is worth it!
