The GOODS from Bitter Tasting Room

Vancouver, BC | An important and successful chapter is closing for one of Vancouver’s renowned dining establishments. After launching this unique beer parlour and eatery in 2011 and building it into a Gastown hot spot, the Heather Hospitality Group has decided to sell Bitter Tasting Room.

The decision to pass the torch on to another well-respected proprietor will allow Sean and Erin Heather to spend more time with their family of five young children.

“We weren’t prepared to pass Bitter onto just anyone,” says Sean Heather. “They needed to have the pedigree and passion to continue and improve on what we started. The folks from Darby’s in Kitsilano fell in love with Bitter and made us an offer that we couldn’t refuse.”

Heather Hospitality Group is delighted to pass Bitter on to Lightheart Hospitality, which has a track record of offering an immense selection of excellent beers married with hearty, reasonably priced fare.

Darby’s, the flagship restaurant belonging to Lightheart Hospitality, is also lauded for blending well into Kitsilano and notable contributions to its surrounding community. This community orientation was a major consideration for HHG when vetting new organizations to take over operations at Bitter.

Lightheart intends to continue operating Bitter with the same name and inimitable concept, but its leadership is excited to infuse the eatery with some fresh ideas and new energy.

Bitter Tasting Room specializes in local and imported craft beers and honest bar food. They aim to support local breweries and distilleries in and around the Greater Vancouver area, and serve an inspired mix of offerings from some of B.C.’s best independent breweries and noteworthy European and American varieties. By designing a menu to enhance the flavours of their beer offerings, Bitter Tasting Room has elevated the casual nature of beer drinking to an appreciated art form.

The Heather Hospitality Group owns and operates a range of popular establishments, including The Irish Heather Gastropub, Salty Tongue, Salt Tasting Room, Shebeen Whiskey House and Rainier Provisions. HHG has operated in Gastown for over 18 years and supports many local charities including the Portland Hotel Society, the Rainier Hotel and Beauty Night Society. As an integral part of their operations, HHG promotes and showcases many small, independent food producers and products, helping support the success and growth of their suppliers by featuring each producer by name on the menus. They also regularly commit to a minimum buy and partner on key customer events.

About Bitter Tasting Room

At Bitter, we want you to join us on a journey to a time when Vancouver had a bustling beer culture. Before Prohibition shut down the taps, the local breweries were countless. Delicious ales, lagers and bitters poured free. A golden era in history, before the rise of the beer monopoly, when brewers made the beer they wanted to make, not the beer they had to make.
