Golden Goal | sports | The sudden death overtime goal – scored by Sidney Crosby on American goalie Ryan Miller on February 28th, 2010 – that won Canada the Men’s Ice Hockey gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. The term was coined in the heat of the moment by play-by-play sportscaster Chris Cuthbert, who exclaimed: “Crosby scores! Sidney Crosby! The golden goal!” Inarguably one of the greatest sports moments in Canadian history.
Usage: “I was at my parents’ house with my face full of seven-layer dip when Sid the Kid scored the Golden Goal…”
