Looking to close out June with purpose…and a plate full of something incredible? On Friday, June 27th, Flavours of Hope returns with its annual Dream Cuisines Food Business Launch event, spotlighting a new group of immigrant and refugee women entrepreneurs ready to share their food and stories with Vancouver.

Hosted at the And-Co space in downtown Vancouver, this one-night-only market and celebration brings together traditional dishes from Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Nigeria, and Chile, with alumni returning to represent Syria, Iran, Palestine/Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Mexico. Expect tables lined with savoury snacks, bold sweets, and dishes you probably won’t find anywhere else in the city. (Bring cash or card to buy directly from the women behind each business.)

New on the lineup this year:

Ruka Cocina

Angeliz Colombian Food

Dulce ZaZa

La Pax Foods

Teque Love Venezuelan Bites

Returning alumni include:

Dar Darak Samira Kitchen

Everything Za’atar

Darna Moroccan Flavours

Delia’s Mexican Bite

Fariya Bakery

Tickets are by donation, with proceeds going directly to supporting the Dream Cuisines program, which helps newcomer women build food-based businesses through mentorship, training, and community. (Find out more about what Dream Cuisines is all about here.)

Drinks are included with your ticket, including agua fresca from Tropi Van and specialty Indian coffee courtesy of Alai Coffee.

Things kick off with food (available to purchase) and refreshments from 5:30-6pm, followed by a brief introduction to the incredible lineup of women involved and their individual stories. Then, at 6:30pm, it’s time to shop the market! Come hungry — as well as ready to support something that really matters. Tickets and more info here.

The crew at Niwa and Hazelmere Farm have been pals for years, so it was probably only a matter of time before somebody had the good sense to set up a table. On July 25, Chef Darren Gee cooks dinner at the source, with Naty King's fields helping decide what's on the menu.

A Neighbourhood-Wide Invitation to Wander Chinatown

When summer foot traffic slowed, a group of Chinatown businesses responded the way the best neighbourhoods often do: by working together. Their month-long Chinatown Passport is an invitation to wander, eat, drink and rediscover the neighbourhood.
