Tofino, BC | Basic Goodness is expanding the team behind its long-fermented, wood fired pizza program and hiring a Lead Pizzaiolo and a skilled Pizza Cook.
Basic Goodness is a year-round wood-fired pizzeria located in Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Our dough is long-fermented and handled with discipline every day. Peak nights can reach around 200 pizzas, and we are building a two-person pizza team that runs the oven with consistency and calm even during busy service. Basic Goodness operates with a working leadership model where leaders actively participate in service and support the team directly. We run a small, disciplined kitchen where preparation, communication, and rhythm keep the oven calm even on the busiest nights.
Lead Pizzaiolo – Wood-fired (Year-round)
We are hiring a Lead Pizzaiolo to own the integrity of our dough system — from fermentation through to oven execution — every day. This is a working leadership role. You will work alongside a second skilled pizza cook, ensuring the station remains stable, consistent, and sustainable.
Responsibilities
Lead daily dough production within an established fermentation system
Maintain consistency, timing, and quality at every stage
Execute clean, repeatable hand stretching
Manage a live wood-fired oven with confidence and control
Maintain composure and precision during high-volume service
Train and support pizza cooks on technique and station rhythm
Uphold the standards that define the kitchen
Contribute to seasonal pizza development within a focused menu
Requirements
3+ years experience with Neapolitan or wood-fired pizza
Strong experience with long-fermented dough
Confidence operating a live wood-fired oven independently
Clean, repeatable hand-stretch technique
Ability to perform during high-volume service
A long-term mindset and interest in building something
Food Safe Level 1 required.

Compensation
$65,000 annual salary
Employer-provided housing (private room in shared home)
Participation in the restaurant’s shared tip pool
Total compensation typically exceeds $90,000 annually when housing and tips are included.
This position is designed with future equity participation in mind for the right long-term leader.
Pizza Cook Wood- Fired
We are hiring a Pizza Cook to work alongside the Lead Pizzaiolo and support the execution of the pizza program during service. This is a hands-on role for someone who already has experience in a wood-fired or high-volume pizza kitchen and wants to continue developing their craft within a disciplined system.
Responsibilities
Stretch dough and prepare pizzas during service
Support the wood-fired oven during busy periods
Assist with daily dough production and fermentation prep
Maintain consistency, organization, and station rhythm
Support the Lead Pizzaiolo in executing a stable pizza program
Requirements
Experience with Neapolitan or wood-fired pizza
Familiarity with long-fermented dough
Ability to execute clean, consistent hand stretching
Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen
Ability to perform consistently during busy service
Interest in developing your craft within a structured program
Food Safe Level 1 preferred.

Compensation
Competitive hourly wage ($22–$25/hr depending on experience)
Participation in the restaurant’s shared tip pool
