Via Tevere’s ‘Saltimbocca’ Pizzawiches At Farmhouse Fest

FarmHouseFest2016-joeyarmstrong-1583

by Joey Armstrong | A saltimbocca pizza in sandwich form? Yes, please! Saltimbocca means “to jump in the mouth” in Italian, which is exactly what this good looking thing from Via Tevere‘s food truck does, with much haste and deliciousness. I ate one of them at the recent Farmhouse Fest out at UBC Farm, and let me tell you…salty prosciutto with sharp, fresh arugula and gooey fior di latte wrapped up in a pizza crust sandwich is awesome; a solid accompaniment for sour beers, wild ales and saisons — especially when you are drinking a lot of them.

Despite the rain, the saison-fueled beer fest was packed with people drinking limited farmhouse ales and ciders from BC and around the world. One of the more interesting finds was the Fruit Stand, a brett saison with guava co-crafted by Steel & Oak and Dageraad. (They labeled their collaboration “Best Friends Brewing.” Aw.) My favourites were the Exil d’Eden from Four Winds, a delicious table saison with apple and oats; Fuggles & Warlock‘s Kiwami Plum Sour; and the Purple Draaaank, a refreshing saison with boysenberry from Steel & Oak.
