L’Abattoir to Host Vancouver’s First ‘Michelin on the Road’ Dining Experience, March 21

The GOODS from L’Abattoir

Vancouver, BC | L’Abattoir Chef and Co-owner Lee Cooper will welcome Chef Lee Wolen of Chicago’s Michelin one-starred restaurant Boka to the line when the award-winning Gastown destination hosts the first-ever Michelin on the Road™ dining experience in Vancouver on Wednesday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Taking place in L’Abattoir’s private dining quarters, No. 1 Gaoler’s Mews, the evening will feature a cocktail reception with passed canapés and a five-course collaborative menu prepared by Chefs Cooper and Wolen with wine pairings by Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars, CheckMate Artisanal Winery, Meyer Family Vineyards, LaStella Winery, Laughing Stock Vineyards and Tantalus Vineyards. Tickets are available for $195 per person plus tax and gratuity, and may be purchased online at labattoir.ca/events.

Cooper has long been familiar with the prestigious annual Michelin Guide accolades, having worked at a number of Michelin-starred restaurants, most notably the UK’s The Fat Duck, before opening L’Abattoir in 2010 and the ultra-indulgent ‘restaurant-within-a-restaurant’ concept known as No. 1 Gaoler’s Mews in 2017. More recently, Cooper partnered with L’Abattoir Chef Jack Chen and Co-owner Nin Rai to open the doors of Coquille Fine Seafood in the heart of Vancouver’s historic Gastown district.

Previously sous chef at New York’s Michelin three-starred Eleven Madison Park, Wolen joined Chicago’s Boka — a staple of the Windy City dining scene since 2003 — as Executive Chef and Partner in 2014, the same year he was named ‘Chef of the Year’ by the Chicago Tribune and Eater Chicago. Since coming to Boka, Wolen has helped the restaurant earn consecutive Michelin stars from 2014 through ’17 and last fall opened his second concept, Somerset, in Chicago’s Gold Coast district.

The dinner represents the first time that Michelin has selected Vancouver to host one of its exclusive Michelin on the Road™ events, which brings together the greatest chefs from around the globe to combine their unique talents and host inspired, collaborative events in restaurants and unexpected settings.

“It’s an honour to join forces with a fellow chef of Wolen’s calibre to host this first-ever Michelin on the Road™ event in Vancouver,” said Cooper, who led L’Abattoir to the win for ‘Best Gastown/Railtown Restaurant’ at the 2017 Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards and a strong showing on the 2017 list of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants. “It’s a unique opportunity to give our guests a chance to take part in a truly one-of-a-kind collaborative culinary experience.”

TICKETS | A limited number of tickets to the exclusive Michelin on the Road™ collaborative dinner featuring chefs Lee Cooper and Lee Wolen on Wednesday, March 21 are available for $195 per person plus tax and gratuity. Tickets may be purchased online at labattoir.ca/events.
