Rainy Day Pho Ga At Hastings-Sunrise’s “Mr. Red Cafe”

16974837060_e380ae9e86_k

Mr. Red Cafe in Hastings-Sunrise is the ultimate in rainy day escapes. Owned by Rose and Hong Nguyen, it’s a wham-bam punchy flavour show of North Vietnamese street food staples. Take two friends and go big. Aim for the $7 Xôi Xéo (sticky rice with chicken); the restorative, $8 flat noodle chicken Pho Ga soup (the bone broth is one of the best elixirs in town); the standard issue, super cheap $4.50 chicken Banh Mi; and any fourth dish Rose recommends. If it’s busy, rest assured that the service turns and burns; plus the portions and prices, oh my!
