A new pizzeria called Tratto with a Vancouver connection is on track to open at some point towards the end of summer at 256 Westminster Avenue West in downtown Penticton.
The 58 seater will be a partnership between pizzaiolo and restaurant veteran Christopher Royal (ex-Nook) and the Frank and Dom Morra, the brothers behind East Van’s excellent Via Tevere. (Royal is a recent import to the Okanagan while the Morra family has property thereabouts.)
The 2,200 sqft address (last employed as a marijuana dispensary) will follow the Neapolitan style of pizza with 6-10 different pies, plenty of antipasto dishes and some larger main course items that will use the gas-fired Marra Forni oven like a Tuscan grill.
I just saw Royal (pictured above) in Naramata at his Pie Face pop-up at JoieFarm Winery. Should the pizzas at Tratto Pizzeria Napoletana are anywhere near as delicious the pie he made for me that day, Penticton will have scored a winner.
Until then, hit the pop-up, sit in the grass with a glass of Chic Fille rose and order a ‘Bee Sting’ pizza for slices of heaven.
