The Goods from The Acorn and Lila
Vancouver, BC | Mount Pleasant mainstays The Acorn and Lila are thrilled to introduce Taste Makers, a new rotating artist billboard series designed to nourish the city’s creative spirit and spotlight visual artists who are shaping culture in Vancouver.
Unveiling on the 1st of every month at the corner of Main & 24th, Taste Makers features a bold new billboard by a different local artist—turning a traditionally commercial space into a public platform for visual storytelling.
The series launches this month with a piece by acclaimed illustrator and painter Ryan Heshka, known for his pulp-inspired, technicolour worlds and vintage sci-fi aesthetic. Heshka’s surreal, cinematic style sets the tone for a year-long celebration of boundary-pushing local art.
To commemorate each installation, limited-edition collectible artist cards will be available for free at both The Acorn and Lila, offering a keepsake and deeper insight into each featured artist. Additionally, each month will feature a custom cocktail, inspired by or created in collaboration with the artist and their work—offering guests a new sensory way to engage with the series.
Taste Makers is a completely independent initiative, dreamed up and fully funded by the restaurants as a gesture of support for the creative community they’re proud to be part of.
“Restaurants feed people in more ways than one,” says Shira Blustein, founder of both The Acorn and Lila. “With Taste Makers, we’re offering up space, attention, and a bit of joy to the artists who help shape this neighbourhood’s identity. This series is a love letter to Mount Pleasant’s creative energy.”
The public is invited to view each new billboard beginning on the first of every month, and to stop in for a drink, a bite, and a chance to collect the art—in more ways than one.
