by Andrew Morrison | Four years ago this week I took a look inside The Sardine Can with owners Chris Stewart and Andrey Durbach, just as they were opening their doors for the very first time. I remember how flavourful everything was on opening day: the gambas, the albondigas, the patatas bravas… it was all so good! Beyond a little menu tweaking, little has changed at the tiny, simple, Spanish-inspired Gastown restaurant since its opening in May 2012, a testament, no doubt, to how well conceived an eatery it was from the start. The duo have two other restaurants – both Italian in theme – that are well worth checking out: Sorella in Cambie Village and La Buca on Macdonald.
