Prepare Your Senses for Next Weekend’s Third Annual Truffle Festival

Prepare your senses for the third annual BC Truffle Festival on Saturday, February 9th from 1:30pm to 4pm out at UBC.

Plan a day out at the UBC Farm for the main event, where you’ll get a taste and noses full of a variety of native BC truffles and locally cultivated Mediterranean types, not to mention an earful of knowledge from a panel of truffle experts. Topics on the table include cultivation basics, kitchen tips and how to hunt down truffles with a trained canine companion. The afternoon will culminate with a demonstration, led by experts Dexter the Puggle and Macchi, a Lagotto Romagnolo, who will be showcasing their talents alongside their human counterparts.

For those who are especially interested in the latter, there’s a three-hour-long Truffle Foray the following day (Sunday) that you won’t want to miss. Participants in the Foray will have the exceptional opportunity to join in on a real deal truffle harvest at the South Langley orchard that’s currently the sole producer of Bianchetto truffles in Canada. The experience is a bit of a splurge ($100 per person, including some tasty truffle hors-d’oeuvres) but well worth it when you add up the exclusivity factor plus the quality time spent with Dexter and Macchi.

Tickets to the Truffle Festival’s main event at UBC are $50 each and can be purchased from the event page. More adventurous truffle enthusiasts can sniff out your tickets to this year’s secret location Truffle Foray over here.
