The sixth location of Tacofino is nearing completion at 1909 West 4th Ave. in Kitsilano (the old Szechuan location under the TD Bank). Scout took a look inside over the weekend…
Tacofino operations manager Anthony Sterne, chef Stefan Hartmann and co-owner Jason Sussman were on site for my quick visit to the new address, which feels very much like a natural (if not overdue) fit for the neighbourhood.
Though the 1,900 sqft space is a little hidden away, I don’t think it will take Kits locals long to consistently crowd the 38 seater given the brand’s proven magnetism in Vancouver.
The new restaurant will echo the company’s overall casual vibe with counter service. Though you can’t really tell yet from the photos below, seating options will see a mix of banquettes and high top tables.
Chef Stefan Hartmann tells me the menu will be subtly different from the other Tacofino locations, albeit anchored by tried and true favourites. Joining the greatest hits will be new items like Maui pork pastor, tuna burritos, a new rice mix (licked with lime), and chili cheese taquitos.
It sounds like there’s a big emphasis on fun and freshness, which should suit the block well. I’m told we can expect to see it open before the end of September. More soon.
