Five Years Ago This Week, the Launch of Belgard Kitchen Was Imminent in Railtown

For this week’s edition of our Throwback Thursday series we go back exactly five years ago this week to the launch of Belgard Kitchen in Railtown’s Settlement Building.

I was able to tour the final stages of its construction a couple of weeks before its launch in April 2014. It was a confusing jumble at the time. Vancouver Urban Winery and FreshTAP were already in operation in the 7,700 sqft space, but incoming was Postmark Brewing and the 65 seat Belgard Kitchen. If I recall correctly, the brewing side of things was still very much under construction but the restaurant was only getting its kitchen equipment installed. Fast forward five years and it’s become a reliably delicious and welcoming place for a bite and a drink, not to mention a destination for weekend brunches. Do the meatball skillet with spicy tomato sauce, parmesan cream and poached eggs — so good!

I took a bunch of photos that day, and share them below…
