I was a huge fan of Aurora Bistro and so was not a little disappointed when it closed. While it’s been great watching former owner/chef Jeff Van Geest doing great things at Miradoro up in the Okanagan ever since, there’s no denying that this city’s food scene took a hit when he skipped Main Street. That was back in the Fall of 2008, at the height of the financial meltdown, so there wasn’t that much going as far as fine food is concerned in those parts until recently, when Burdock & Co. opened (fun fact: both Van Geest and Burdock chef Andre Carlson worked in the kitchen at Bishop’s).
Anyway, Van Geest just sent me an email saying that he was coming to town to resurrect Aurora Bistro for one night only on February 8th, 2014. Read all about it below:
Join Chef Jeff Van Geest for an evening of classic Aurora Bistro dishes paired with delicious B.C. wines from Tinhorn Creek Vineyards on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 7pm, at Longtail Kitchen.
Jeff, along with Longtail Kitchen’s chef and owner Angus An, Aurora Bistro alumni Dan Tigchelaar, Hugh Carbery, Kurtis Kolt and Katharine Manson will host a nostalgic and fun evening to be shared with friends. Guests will gather around long communal tables and indulge in a 4-course prix fixe menu comprised of fan favourites made from locally sourced, seasonal ingredients.
Tickets are priced at $95 (inclusive of wine pairings and gratuity) with partial proceeds being donated to the BC Hospitality Foundation. Limited seating is available. Menu/details after the jump…

So much that we named our only child after the Cafe. Yes we are the foodies that named our child after a restaurant. not just any restaurant.. Jeff’s amazing Aurora Cafe!
