Chef’s Table #70 Has Its Own Kitchen Window And ‘Lazy Susan’

Many months ago we posted a reader’s poll listing what we considered to be the top five restaurant tables in Vancouver. We received so much in the way of reader feedback – both positive and negative that we’ve decided to shine a brighter light on the subject, one excellent table at a time.

We’ve always been a little on the fence about chef’s tables, especially the ones that are put on display for the rest of the dining room to be jealous of. This small one, known as Table #70, can be found at Gastown’s playfully modern PacRim/Asian exemplar, Pidgin. While it looks like it’s built for two, we’ve seen it seat four. It is, just to look at it, refreshingly different – and not the least bit ostentatious on account of its diminutive size – sporting as it does its own pop-up window pass and awesome little ‘lazy susan’ turntable device allowing for dishes to be spun around from the chef’s perspective to the guest’s with a flick of the finger (like a DJ spinning a record). It’s definitely one of the most unique tables in the entire city, and well worth sitting at to get a literal window into chef Shin Suzuki’s delicious processes. Bonus: the well endowed prix fixe chef’s menu is a killer deal at $55 per person.
