Chocolate Punctuaction Of A Balvenie Feast In Gastown

IMG_3631-(1)

Chocolate, caramel and whisky, oh my! Last night at the end of a special Balvenie whisky dinner in the private room behind L’Abattoir in Gastown, I tucked into a fabulous dessert of chocolate cake and chocolate caramel with blitzed cake crumble, coffee seasoning, and sweetened sunchoke chips. It was dreamily paired with a dram of the Balvenie Tun 1509, a smooth (if hot) and citrusy whisky that whispers gently of the honey it looks like. Delicious!

The dinner was celebrating today’s arrival at the BC Liquor Store on Cambie Street of one bottle – the only one in Canada – of The Balvenie 50 Year Old, a $45,000 scotch that matches in age the years highly respected Malt Master David Stewart has been employed at the Speyside, Scotland distillery. Also poured during the course of the evening were (in order of appearance) The Balvenie 12 Year Old Doublewood, The Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask, The Balvenie 15 Year Old Single Barrel, and The Balvenie 21 Year Old Portwood.
