The ease with which we sweet-tooths overindulge in a lot of mass-produced crap this time of year is startling — so much so that it might be prudent to reconsider our excesses with furrowed brows over this exquisitely considered and seasonally appropriate Fig & Ricotta dessert at Gastown’s gorgeous Mosquito (one of the sexiest rooms in Vancouver).

The $14 composed beauty sees a frozen parfait brick of almond sweetened with a sheet of fig confit jelly; a jelly made of ice wine; pieces of poached pear and poached huckleberries; a crumbly streusel made of hemp seeds; and a quenelle of fine ricotta sorbet. Forget the candy canes, the Turtles and the Toblerones and put your fork in this before it’s all gone!
