The Goods from Vessel Liquor
Since opening doors in December 2015, Vessel has become Victoria’s hub for all things wine, beer, spirits, cider, and the conversation and culture surrounding them. Our locally-owned, independent company was built around supporting authentic products and producers, from our BC backyard and from around the globe.
Awarded Best Liquor Store in Victoria (six times!), Vessel remains even more committed to serving the community. In 2022 we greatly expanded the footprint of our store, allowing for hundreds more listings. And in 2023, we expanded provincially, with an extensive new website and online store, allowing customers from across BC to shop Vessel from home.
Cheers to a New Year! Whether you’re going “dry”, or “damp”, or full-on embracing a new challenge (we like to call this month TRY-uary), we’ve got fresh new picks in store for you:
MADE IN BC
Victoria Cider Company Ginger Cider, Saanich, Vancouver Island. $21.99
An apple a day keeps the doctor away, plus the warming power of GINGER. Slightly peppery, this cider made from dessert apples is blended with organic Saanich ginger. Semi-dry and gently effervescent, this feels proper healthful, and is a helpful 6.5%. Find it online.
ALL DAY MIMOSAS
Mionetto Alcohol Removed Sparkling NV, Veneto, Italy. $24.99
This pretty prosecco-esque bubble is entirely alcohol-free, making all day mimosas a January goal. Light peach + perfumed pear + with fine bubbles = brunch. January maths. Find it online.
BRIGHT & BITTER
Ghia Original Apéritif, USA. $49.99
Both bright and bitter (which is how many of us are feeling this month), this zero-proof spirit is akin to an Italian amaro. Sweet on the intake, with a fresh kick of Japanese yuzu, invigorating notes of lemon balm, orange and rosemary, and finishing bitter and savoury. Find it online.
TRY-UARY
Troupis Fteri Moschofilero 2022, Mantinia, Peloponnese, Greece. $29.99
We embrace TRY-uary at the start of each year, and this bright fresh white wine from Greece is a perfect entry. From the floral and perfumed Moschofilero grape, rooted at high altitude in the mountainous wine region of Mantinia, this lighter white sings with jasmine, rose and orange.
