Poplar Grove Winery Introduces BC’s First Library Wine Collection

The Goods from Poplar Grove Winery

Penticton, BC | On November 1, 2024, Poplar Grove Winery will become the first winery in BC to launch a formal library aging program to the public: the Poplar Grove Library Collection.

“I’ve always believed a winery should have a cellaring program where wines mature, and guests can visit to taste and learn about older, rare vintages,” says Tony Holler, Owner & President of Poplar Grove Winery. “Now we do…”

For the last decade, Poplar Grove has been holding back a significant amount of its age-worthy wines each year. Bottles are then aged for 10 years under perfect conditions: on their sides, in custom-built cages inside a state-of-the-art, temperature- and humidity-controlled warehouse.

The Library Collection’s inaugural release is composed of 120 cases of each of the winery’s three reserve 2014 Bordeaux-style reds: the Merlot, the Cabernet Franc, and its flagship, The Legacy. These will be available for purchase from the winery until the end of this year — or while supplies last — alongside their current counterparts: the Merlot 2020, the Cabernet Franc 2020, and The Legacy 2018.

Every fall moving forward, Library Collection wines that were deemed worthy of cellaring 10 years ago will be released, alongside the current year’s vintages.

The Library Collection is easily identifiable thanks to its distinctive and striking metal medallions (instead of paper labels), making it a welcome gift for wine connoisseurs and collectors on your holiday shopping list.

A certain percentage of the original 120 cases of reserve 2014 is being held back by the winery for specialty events, Poplar Grove Wine Club members, and seated onsite tastings such as The Library Collection Experience.

An intimate, 60-minute experience in Poplar Grove’s Penticton Tasting Room, The Library Collection Experience contrasts the evolution of all three 2014 Library Collection wines against their current 2018 / 2020 counterparts. These exceptional tastings are limited to eight guests per session and will take place on Fridays and Saturdays from November 8 to December 21, 1pm to 3pm. Non-refundable spots can be reserved for $40 per guest ($30 for Wine Club members).

The Poplar Grove Library Collection is a testament to Tony Holler’s vision, the Holler family’s hard work, and the skill and craftmanship of the entire Poplar Grove team — especially Executive Winemaker Stefan Arnason, who has led the winemaking team since 2010.

It’s also a special thank you to Poplar Grove’s loyal patrons for nearly three decades of trust and support.

* Poplar Grove Library Collection wines are currently available exclusively to Wine Club members until Oct. 31. Public sales begin Nov. 1.
