It’s Havest Time! Check Out Vessel Liquor’s Top Four Picks for September

The Goods from Vessel Liquor

Victoria, BC | Since opening doors in December 2015, Vessel has become Victoria’s hub for all things wine, beer, spirits, cider, and the conversation and culture surrounding them. Our locally-owned, independent company was built around supporting authentic products and producers, from our BC backyard and from around the globe.

Awarded Best Liquor Store in Victoria (six times!), Vessel remains even more committed to serving the community. In 2022 we greatly expanded the footprint of our store, allowing for hundreds more listings. And in 2023, we expanded provincially, with an extensive new website and online store, allowing customers from across BC to shop Vessel from home.

It’s harvest time! Here are four pours that we’re super keen on this September:

MADE IN BC

Kizuna Nigori Sake, BC. ($26.99 / 375mL)

Okanagan restaurateur turned sake success story, Kizuna is nailing it, again. This Nigori sake is unfiltered, hence the gently hazy hue. Authentically and affectionately rustic, this has great texture and lift to work with gently spiced foods (yummy warming soups). Find it online.

NAZIONLE!

Birra Baladin Birra Nazionale, Italy. ($5.99 / 330mL)

The first ever 100% Italian beer has been a long time in the making, comprising water feeding down from the Alps, barley from the south, hops from the northwest, spice from central, and yeast cultivated from the brewery in Piemonte. Coriander and mandarin peel wrap around a gently hopped base. A lovely international alternative to the local brews. Find it online.

COAST TO COAST

Lightfoot and Wolfville Brut Rosé 2021, Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. ($49.99)

From our Atlantic kin, this traditional method rosé blends Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley. Fresh wild raspberries, light strawberry is threaded with mandarin peel and kissed with wild mint as it streams down the stony palate, finishing with a bitter orange twist. Great freshness and purity of fruit throughout, this is certainly built for food. Find it online.

GULPABLE GLUP

Longaví GLUP Maule Rosado 2023, Maule Valley, Chile. ($39.99)

Longaví is a cross cultural collab between Chilean winemaker Julio Bouchon and South African winemaker David Nieuwoudt. Their GLUP Rosado is a field blend of 100+ year old dry farmed Grenache, Mourvèdre, and País, yielding fragrant violets, crunchy bright acidity, and lithe tannins. Beauty purity. Find it online.
