DINER: The Aprons For Gloves’ “Restaurant Rumble” Is In Need Of Ring Girls (Or Boys)

We may all be (hopefully) already well aware that the Restaurant Rumble is coming to Vancouver on July 25th, but did you know they were looking for ring girls for the charitable event? This just landed in my inbox…

For one magical night, individuals from the local service industry are hanging up their aprons and putting on a pair of boxing gloves to live out their dream. All of the contenders are training hard to become the chosen few to compete on Fight Night. Wanna be a part of the action, but don’t want to get punched in the face? Become an of?cial Restaurant Rumble 2012 Ring Girl! All members of the Vancouver service industry are urged to try-out on June 24. Each contestant will be asked to carry a Round Card in a boxing ring. You’ll simply enter the ropes holding the card, and walk the canvas. All you need is personality, a sense of humour and the ability to walk in heels. To sign up, visit www.apronsforgloves.com.

I emailed back for clarification on this being a gender-specific job, and the response was “Men are more than welcome to tryout. Why not?” The ability to walk in heels notwithstanding, I say go for it!

AnnaLena’s Long Game

Most restaurants leave well enough alone. AnnaLena doesn’t. Whether bold or subtle, the changes they make carry weight. Here’s what shifted during the annual closure and why it matters.
