Good news, Vancouver: this October Chef Jefferson Álvarez (of Cacao, which sadly closed in 2019) is making a comeback with a new pop-up dinner series appropriately called Cacao 2.0.
Although details of the full menu are still being solidified, diners can expect a creative multi-course meal featuring the sort of food that made the Venezuela-born Vancouver-based chef’s former Latin-inspired restaurant such a splash – both among local diners and globally. Think: a Marcela 50-year-old Mole; Cacao-style Ceviches; classic Arepa snacks; Mamey Cream Cake; and, to finish it all off, Cacao’s singular Petit Fours. As for the drink accompaniments, Chef Álvarez will be bringing back his signature Pisco Sour and Tropical Guarapita cocktails (non-alc drinks will also be available).
So far, there are two Sunday evening dinner dates locked in, on October 6th and 13th, each with a 5pm and 7pm seating. Both will be going down at Masayoshi restaurant (4376 Fraser Street). If you’re familiar with the space, then you know that it’s tight – in this case, able to accommodate just 15 seats per seating per night!
We probably don’t need to spell it out for you, but this is not only your opportunity to enjoy a spectacular, lovingly-made meal in a super intimate environment – it’s also the chance to be one of a small number of witnesses to an important, much-missed member of our city’s culinary scene’s return to cooking his food, his way. (Plus, there’s nothing like Latin flavours to stave off the end-of-summer blues.) Tickets for the dinner are $150 per person (drinks included) and will be all the more covetable for the aforementioned reasons – so act fast if your want to be a part of this memorable event!
To secure your spot at one of the four seatings, simply reach out to Chef Álvarez directly by emailing your request to [email protected]. He’s also available to field your Cacao 2.0-related questions.
