Aussie Pie “Peaked” With Mashed Potatoes, Peas, Gravy

peaked

by Andrew Morrison | Having worked my way through countless brews in the rain at the Whistler Village Beer Festival this past weekend, it was an especially fine thing to stumble upon Peaked Pies, a small shop in the Lower Village selling traditional Australian meat pies.

We’re talking buttery beauties baked to a golden brown with a variety of delicious stuffings, everything from beef curry and Thai chicken to pepper steak and veggies.

It’s a line-up similar to the one offered by the Aussie Pie Guy, a food truck here in Vancouver. The similarity extends to the over-the-top addition of mashed potato, peas, and gravy — a most decadent coup de grace. The one pictured above is filled with steak, bacon, and cheese.

The only thing that really set Peaked Pies from apart from its Vancouver counterpart were its obvious brick and mortar benefits. In the rain and cold – when hot pies like these are most appreciated – it’s a good thing indeed to have them on a plate, at a table, inside

Can you imagine how well these would sell in Vancouver if they could be had indoors? Your move, Aussie Pie Guy!
