Today is National Pie Day, and we’re celebrating by anticipating the hell out of The Pie Hole, a new eatery currently under construction at 3497 Fraser Street. You might already be familiar with the company, as owner Jenell Parsons has been making pies in a commissary space off Terminal since 2011 (in the same complex as Beta5 Chocolates). The move to a brick and mortar business has been a long time coming, as Jenell had a seven month false start with a space that never opened due to strata issues on The Drive (their loss being the Fraserhood‘s gain). The new location, formerly home to stroller-magnet Sweetsalt Bakery, is now in the midst of its makeover, and should be open by the end of March. We can expect a rotating selection of eight sweet pies and four savoury pies at a time. Jenell works from her own catalogue of 81 pies (and counting) so repeat customers are virtually guaranteed something new each time they visit. And we’re not talking basic pie types, either. On any given day you might find anything from avocado key lime and blueberry goat cheese basil to Moroccan chickpea and bacon cheeseburger. Bonus: they’ll also be serving coffee from Victoria’s Fernwood Coffee Company and ice cream from Betterwith. The look will be a modern take on a ’50s diner. If you can’t wait until the end of the month to try The Pie Hole’s stuff, either order online or head to any of these local retailers, and have a very happy Pie Day!
Ahh, great article! I’ve been looking forward to the opening for months now and all the details described here have me even more excited 🙂

Hi Louisa
I am the owner of The Pie Hole. I am happy to hear you love us and sorry to say that Sweet Salt will not be re-opening anywhere. We rally hope you enjoy what we have done with the space and the delicious pies we will be baking there!
