by Andrew Morrison | 7-Up rain is the next cool thing. You know those hot summer days when the city catches the edge of a storm or a cloud or two get together for a party despite the overwhelming preponderance of blue sky? I call it “7-up rain” after a seriously cheesy soda pop commercial that used to make me giggle when I was a kid. The rare, sunny, and quick-to-fade showers (often punctuated by intense rainbows) are hardly a weather phenomenon exclusive to Vancouver, but to me they are little refreshing gifts that pick up the amazing smell of hot dust lifted from thirsty concrete and give relief to those scorched gardens lucky enough to receive the wet attention. It’s my favourite kind of rain, and whenever it appears I treat it as an omen of good times.
