Scout is excited about expanding its coverage of BC’s food and drink scene in 2014. We are looking to bring in two new regular contributors, specific to our food and drink section – aka Gluttony – early in the new year.

Wine & Spirits Columnist

We’re looking for someone who knows and loves the local wine and spirits scene. The successful candidate will regularly contribute to Scout’s front page with a branded column and an archived byline.

Requirements

– residency in Vancouver.
– a (controlled) passion for alcohol.
– professional experience with wine and/or spirits.
– deep knowledge of the local food and beverage landscape.
– camera skills (equipped with own DSLR).
– a fair-ish command of the English language (and tolerance for an editor).
– ability to work alone while consistently producing quality content.

Expectation

– two posts per week, with photography.

Renumeration

TBD on a per-post basis.

All interested parties are invited to submit a sample review of any local wine or spirit (no more than 250 words) in the body of an email together (with relevant photography, cover letter and resume attached) to andrew [at] scoutmagazine.ca with “Scout Columnist” as the subject.

Applications accepted between now until January 15th, 2014. We thank all those who apply, but only those who are shortlisted will be contacted.

Food Photographer & Writer

We’re looking for someone who loves photography as much as he/she loves dining out in hole-in-the-wall restaurants that don’t get the attention that they deserve.

Requirements

– residency in Vancouver.
– a passion for cheap, off the beaten track eateries.
– professional experience with food.
– deep knowledge of the local food and beverage landscape
– camera skills (equipped with own DSLR).
– a fair-ish command of the English language (and tolerance for an editor).
– ability to work alone while consistently producing quality content.

Expectation

– two posts per week, with photography.

Renumeration

TBD on a per-post basis.

All interested parties are invited to submit a sample review of any local restaurant (no more than 250 words) in the body of an email together (with relevant photography, cover letter and resume attached) to andrew [at] scoutmagazine.ca with “Scout Columnist” as the subject.

Applications accepted between now until January 15th, 2014. We thank all those who apply, but only those who are shortlisted will be contacted.

NOTE: If you think that you could do the duties of both positions offered, that should be reflected in your application.

  1. Scout needs a vegetarian focused contributor! Not someone that thinks a plate of nachos at the Foundation is a quality meal but one who would show up at the Fish Counter on their first day for their veg soup after going to Yolk’s for breakfast. Yes, a vegetarian food nerd, we exist and would love to hear from others like us!

  2. Vegetarian? Come on what this place needs is a motorcycle riding Meatarian from East Van. No one knows where to find cheap eats hole in the walls better then someone with only coins in his pocket.

  3. I think that’s all we do (take photos and comment on food everywhere we go!), we’ve slowed down a bit due to the holidays, but we’re back logged with a gazillion photos due to be posted incredibly soon.

Check our flickr out and let us know if you like our style. 😀

    Happy holidays!
