The GOODS from Wild Rice

Vancouver, BC | Enchanted Evenings dinner packages are back for a summer of dining and musical pleasure. Offered in conjunction with Dr. Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden’s Enchanted Evenings Concert Series, the public can book a pre-concert dinner at Wild Rice (Pender St. location) followed by an evening of music at the Garden – all with one easy phone call.

The delicious combination is available every Friday night starting July 6th through August 31st and features a diverse line-up of musical entertainment including the hot Latin rhythms of Rumba Calzada, gypsy jazz with Van Django, the fusion sounds of Silk Road and traditional blues and gospel with Jim Byrnes. Price for the concert is a very reasonable $25 ($20 for Garden members). The full line-up with dates is available on Dr. Sun Yat Sen’s website.

For concert-goers, a special three-course pre-concert dinner is available at Wild Rice’s Chinatown location on Pender Street – only a five-minute walk from the Garden. Details after the jump…

Executive Chef Todd Bright has designed a flavourful menu designed to get your taste buds singing. The three-course dinner starts with a choice of Wild Rice’s modern version of Wonton Soup or Siu Choy Salad. For mains, there is a choice of Wild Rice’s ‘Chinese Fish ‘n Chips’ (beer-battered ling cod, Asian Tartar Sauce, taro shoestring frites) or its ‘meaty’ Grilled King Oyster Mushroom (with cashew ricotta and polenta fries). End dinner on a sweet note with a choice of either Water Chestnut Streusel or Chocolate and Taro Spring Roll.

The price for this special pre-concert dinner is only $21 (plus tax and gratuity) per person. As this special menu is available only to concert-goers, dinner reservations must be made by calling Dr. Sun Yat Sen Garden at 604-662-3207, ext. 209. Concert tickets can be booked at the same time. However, patrons will pay for the dinner portion of the package at the restaurant.

With a great deal such as this, you may find yourself singing “some enchanted evening” – just like Emile in South Pacific.

About Wild Rice

Photo---Wild-Rice,-Food,-Sa

Wild Rice began as a simple thought from Andrew Wong. His wish was to create a socially conscious restaurant serving local cuisine with influences from his Chinese heritage.

The space is a blend of yin and yang, east and west, traditional and modern. As in traditional Chinese cuisine, the menu offers numerous dishes for sharing. Where they diverge from tradition is in the ingredients, presentation and style.

As a proud member of OceanWise, Green Table and Shark Truth, Wild Rice is committed to serving ingredients that are local, seasonal and sustainable. The wine list reflects a thoughtful selection of the best from BC and West Coast vineyards.

Yin/yang sensibilities inform every aspect of Wild Rice. Guests receive metal knives and forks (western, yang) along with bamboo chopsticks (asian, yin). The sharp geometric lines (yang) of the room and its furniture are softened by the effect of the curves (yin) in the bar and bolsters. The energy of the loft fire wall is balanced by the calming ice blue resin of the bar. Harmony prevails and guests instantly feel comfortable.
