GOODS: Granville Island’s “Dockside” Needs A Name For Their First India Pale Ale

The GOODS from Dockside

Vancouver, BC | For some time now, we’ve received requests to add an IPA to our beer list but when you make all your own beer, adding something to the menu isn’t as simple as placing an order. As it has with every new beer at Dockside Restaurant, adding an IPA meant that our brewing team Craig Ludtke and Mark Simpson spent months working through the development and testing process until the recipe was ready for brewing.

We’re very pleased to announce that the first IPA brew is now complete and we’re ready to launch it to the public just in time for Vancouver Craft Beer Week. Made using “Falconer’s Flight”, a Northwest IPA-specific hop blend from Hopunion, the IPA has a lovely deep gold colour and a great flavour profile that leads with hops and is balanced with floral notes for a great nose and just enough sweetness to round out the taste.

But, the one thing the IPA doesn’t have is a name, so we’re running a contest between now and the end of Vancouver Craft Beer Week to name it. The details after the leap…

Our beers have traditionally been named after Granville Island landmarks or on a nautical theme given our waterfront location, so on tap we have Cartwright Pale Ale, Pelican Bay Brown and Johnston Pilsner to name a few. For a complete look at our beer names and logos, visit http://www.docksidevancouver.com/brewery. Don’t be limited by this theme though, we’re want to find the best name possible!

One lucky winner of the contest will win a night in the gorgeous Granville Island Hotel along with dinner at Dockside Restaurant and Brewing and a chance to taste all of the craft beers we make.

There are several ways to enter: by posting the name on our Facebook page (fb.com/eatDockside), by sending us a tweet (twitter.com/eatDockside), by emailing us at [email protected] or by dropping off an entry at Dockside Brewing itself. We’ll announce the winner on May 16th. Until then, why not stop in for an IPA to get your creative juices flowing, not to mention your tastebuds as well!

About Dockside

The Dockside Restaurant offers superbly prepared classic dishes in a setting like no other. Located on the waterfront where Granville Island faces the city, guests can enjoy panoramic views across False Creek to the world-famous cityscape of Yaletown and beyond to the mountains of the North Shore.

The open dining room is relaxed yet refined, wrapped in spectacular floor to ceiling windows, while the lounge offers warm intimate surroundings for evening cocktails. The award-winning patio catches sunlight from morning to late afternoon. Protected on three sides it’s an oasis of calm, disturbed only by the occasional sound of boats making their way along False Creek. Recent renovations have added fireplaces and casual seating areas to this Vancouver destination.

These three venues offer seating options that are perfect for groups from 4 to 200. With signature elements like a 50-foot aquarium and an open kitchen, each meal is an experience for all the senses. Located adjacent to the boutique Granville Island Hotel, the Dockside Restaurant is open seven days a week serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Reservations are recommended.

Reviews

“This is our very favorite place. We drive into town from Delta and make an evening of browsing through Granville Isl. Market. The restaurnat is perfect for a quiet evening.View is wonderful. I appreciate the spacious arrangement of the tables. We have our favorite table, the staff and service is fabulous. I had the herb crusted Halibut – it was delicious and my husband enjoyed the slate fish. It was a memorable evening. We look forward to another visist very soon. As well, we have enjoyed the great patio – has to be one of Vancouver’s best.” OpenTable.com

“We have going to Vancouver for many years and most recently (if twenty years can be considered recently) staying exclusively at the wonderful Graville Island Hotel. Because we have an aversion to hotel restaurants, this is the first time we have had dinner there. It was one of the finest dinners we have in a city that is known for its fine restaurants. Outstanding in every way!” OpenTable.com

“We enjoyed the welcoming feel of the restaurant – appropriate lighting, comfortable seating – it is like a comfortable dining room. We will return again as the restaurant has once again met our expectations. The salmon was nicely prepared and the lamb was well presented and excellent on the tongue. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable.” OpenTable.com
