Branding Vancouver is a new column in which we look at some of the more interesting logos and icons that appear in Vancouver’s food and beverage scene. Some of the explanations will be long and others short, but the goal of deeper understanding will be constant. If you want the backstory of a particularly compelling local brand revealed, let us know via @scoutmagazine and we’ll try to figure it out.
The Brand: Twin Sails Brewing’s “High Socks” Mosaic IPA. A simple, stylish, blue on white design for a delicious beer…
“100% Mosaic IPA is another one of our single hopped NE style hazy IPAs. This time we used Mosaic, one of our favourite hops. You’ll get big notes of Pineapple and candied tropical fruit followed by some slight resinous, dank flavours. We kept the body big to hold up to the huge flavours of the Mosaic hop and for a beer that clocks in at 7% ABV, it is incredibly crushable.”

The Story: Cody Allmin explains:
“Neither of us have any background in design. I merely got tired of trying to convey my ideas to somebody else only to not get what I wanted so I spent a few weeks doing tutorials online and learned how to use Adobe. Ryan and I collaborate on the ideas together. As with most of our beer names, High Socks is just a ridiculous name that came about from conversations at the brewery. I believe we were sitting around over beers after work one day and we were commenting on our old head brewer, Dave’s, impressive collection of socks. At some point in the conversation, high socks came about and Dave thought it’d be a hilarious name for a beer so we threw it on the whiteboard where we put all of our prospective beer names. Seemed fitting that we use a dank hop like Mosaic to be showcased in a beer named High Socks as a lot of people relate dankness to sweaty gym socks.”
