With our city now so laughably unaffordable, thousands of Vancouverites are stuck imagining wonderful homes instead of living in them. Spaced is a record of our minds wandering the world of architecture and design, up and away from the unrewarding realities of shoebox condos, dark basement suites, and sweet f~ck all on Craigslist.

(via) This cool, 2,500 sqft retreat bridges a ravine in rural Ontario. Designed by Peruvian firm Llama Urban Design, the long structure is largely defined by its trapezoidal frontage that incorporates twin sets of metal stairs that lead up to a massive rooftop deck. Cedar cladding gives it an elemental feel inside and out, while sliding windows let the outside in and open up to another broad deck that overlooks a lake.

The maple-heavy, strikingly minimalist living and kitchen spaces are open plan with a long hallway connecting them to a master bedroom, an office and a bathroom. It looks like a dreamy place to be in and around, so we’re imagining on this side of the country, positioning it on an isolated lot somewhere especially escapist on Bowen Island.
