Queers & Beers Daytime ‘Sunday Special’ is Happening This Weekend!

Attention beer- and fun-loving Vancouver folks: this weekend you don’t need to break the bank to enjoy both by simply joining the good times at the Queers & Beers ‘Sunday Special’, July 28th.

Inside and outside, Mount Pleasant’s The Birdhouse will be bursting with friendly, laid-back vibes and upbeat activities for their first daytime event ever this Sunday afternoon (1-7pm), with the help of a live DJ spinning sunny tunes, a games set-up on the patio, and an all-day happy hour of $5 local craft brews. Not too shabby! Add to that on-site food trucks serving up good eats and a local makers market, highlighting mostly queer vendors, inside – so you can put your extra dollars where it matters (i.e. into the hands of cool local creatives and small businesses) if you have them.

Entry to the Sunday Special event is just $7 per person, and all are welcome to attend – dogs and kiddos (accompanied) included! Breeze on in by hooking yourself up with your ticket in advance here.

WHY IT MATTERS

The Birdhouse is Vancouver’s one-and-only “queer and trans-run venue dedicated to harm reduction night events”. Showing up for events (at any time of the day) means showing your support for a community that takes care of each other by making it their mission to offer a safe, non-judgmental space for anyone and everyone to relax and have fun. Which makes the whole community of Vancouver a more welcoming and inclusive one, by extension, natch.

Niwa Heads to Hazelmere Farm for a Mid-Summer Feast, July 25th

The crew at Niwa and Hazelmere Farm have been pals for years, so it was probably only a matter of time before somebody had the good sense to set up a table. On July 25, Chef Darren Gee cooks dinner at the source, with Naty King's fields helping decide what's on the menu.

A Neighbourhood-Wide Invitation to Wander Chinatown

When summer foot traffic slowed, a group of Chinatown businesses responded the way the best neighbourhoods often do: by working together. Their month-long Chinatown Passport is an invitation to wander, eat, drink and rediscover the neighbourhood.
