‘North Point Brewing’ Set for Launch in North Van

North Vancouver lands a new microbrewery this weekend as little North Point Brewing gets set to opens its doors in the Lower Lonsdale area at 266 1st Street East.

I poked my head into the new 1,800 sqft operation just a couple of hours before its friends and family reveal last night. According to General Manager Chris Taylor (a Backcountry Brewing alumnus), they are softly open to the public all weekend long with the official launch set for Tuesday, December 10th.

Designed by Bri Ragona Interiors, it’s a pretty and simple little thing, the look and feel of which is evidently meant to evoke ‘cabin feels’ with a gas fireplace (complete with 100+ decorative pieces of firewood), a wooden plank-panelled feature wall, wooden tables, scented candles, homey pillows, lanterns, and so on. The south-facing garage door frontage brings in lots of natural light and will no doubt be a boon on summer afternoons.

The three friends who own North Point – Liam Jeffries, who comes from the tech world; Matt Legate, who is a mechanical engineer; and Sean Annable, VP of Sales at outdoor brand Stormtech – scored Paul Kovamees (ex-Parallel 49) to be their brewer. At the time of writing, Kovamees has four of his beers tapped in the tasting room (including a tasty Strawberry Blonde that I snuck a sip of). I also spied a Greenhill Cider tap, so hooray for that. Snack options are very limited, but I’m told that will change as things pick up steam.

North Point is open until late, six days a week (closed Mondays). Take a look inside…
