New brunch concept Egg & Co. softly opened yesterday morning at 4245 Fraser St. (formerly Escobar). The new restaurant comes to us from Bambudda owner Ray Loy, chef Benjamin Ho (ex-La Pentola), and front of house manager Samantha Fawcett.
The 1,400 sqft address has undergone a major makeover, transforming into a more casual restaurant with bright colours, cozy new seats (including a plush blue banquette) and a good tile job on the back wall. It looks clean and airy, especially with the frontage wide open and the morning light coming in.
My visit yesterday was just a walk-through. I haven’t tasted a thing yet, but the menu is looking good (see it in the gallery below). My eyes went wide on a lot of items, including Ho’s version of chicken and waffles (karaage with bacon, sriracha mayo and maple syrup). I spied eight different mimosas on the drinks list, plus a peach bellini and a number of standard “wake-up” cocktails.
Egg & Co. won’t having their grand opening for another three weeks (August 17th), but the 60 seater is now very much open for business. Hours are 8am to 3pm on weekdays and from 9am to 4pm on weekends (closed Mondays, except for holidays).
