Inn at Laurel Point Team Picks: Exploring Victoria with Your Dog

Inn at Laurel Point Team Picks: Exploring Victoria with Your Dog

The Goods from Inn at Laurel Point

Victoria, BC | At Inn at Laurel Point, we know many trips are even better with your four-legged travel companion. Our pet-friendly rooms, waterfront location, and easy access to Victoria’s harbour pathways and parks make it simple to explore the city together. We even have pet amenities, make our own doggie-biscotti, and have plenty of recommendations from our team to help you make the most of your stay.

Good morning! Let’s take a walk before it gets too hot. Where should we go from the hotel?

One of our favourite walks starts right outside the hotel along the David Foster Harbour Pathway. Turn left and you’ll head to Fisherman’s Wharf, then breathtaking Dallas Road. Take a right and follow the path to Victoria’s iconic Inner Harbour, cross the blue bridge and skirt the water, all the way to West Bay Marina. Both are easy routes with lots to see, and it’s beautiful any time of year.

Is there somewhere along the way we can stop for coffee?

Stop into Duo Café Bakery before you head out or on your way back. We bake our pastries in-house every morning, and there’s always great locally roasted coffee waiting. If you’re travelling with your dog, you’re welcome to relax in the hotel lobby or hallway seating together.

Now we’re starving! Where should we eat?

For lunch, you can’t go wrong with Red Fish Blue Fish. This iconic waterfront spot serves sustainable seafood right on the harbour, and while there’s almost always a lineup, don’t let it scare you. It moves surprisingly quickly, and the fish tacos, chowder, and crispy fish and chips are well worth the wait.

We’ve got some free time for an afternoon adventure. What do you suggest we do with our dog?

Take a ride on a Victoria Harbour Ferry. Whether you choose a harbour tour or hop off at Swift Street Landing to explore Chinatown, Market Square, and downtown, it’s a uniquely Victoria experience that’s even better with your four-legged companion. Closes dock to the hotel : Coast Victoria Hotel & Marina.

That was fun! Now we need a pick-me-up plunge in some cool water.

For a refreshing swim, we love Durrance Lake. The calm water and surrounding forest make it a peaceful spot for both people and dogs on a warm afternoon.

Where should we head for a post-adventure beer, glass of wine or cocktail?

If cocktails are calling, make your way to Citrus & Cane in Trounce Alley. The tropical-inspired space is tucked into one of downtown Victoria’s most charming heritage laneways, and the creative cocktail menu is worth seeking out. Tell the bartenders what flavours you like and let them guide you. They rarely miss.

Now we’re hungry again. What’s the plan for dinner?

If you’re staying with us, you don’t have to go far. Aura Waterfront Restaurant + Patio, located right at Inn at Laurel Point, showcases seasonal Vancouver Island ingredients, panoramic Inner Harbour views, and Victoria’s Best Patio three years running. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring.

It’s patio season! Any recommendations where we can bring our dog?
Boom + Batten is a great waterfront patio option where dogs are welcome and the views are just as good as the menu. We like taking the harbour ferry over for the experience, it turns a simple patio visit into a mini harbour adventure, with great views of the marina and the Harbour along the way.

Any tips on a good spot to take in the view and watch the sun go down?
Dallas Road and the Ogden Point breakwater are great but Saxe Point Park offers a different perspective of the Strait of Juan de Fuca & Olympic Mountains, making it the perfect place to end the day with your dog.

Anything we absolutely have to pack or take home?
Bring comfortable walking shoes because Victoria is best explored on foot. Before you leave, stop by Duo Café Bakery for a box of house-made pastries for the road and some doggie-biscotti for good girls & boys.
