New Documentary Film About Vancouver & The Great Depression

We are happy (and not a little proud) to announce the premiere screening of Prairie Coast Films’ Catch the Westbound Train, a new documentary film by Sean Patrick Shaul. The doc is the first to ever delve into the effects that the Great Depression had on the West Coast of Canada. It was produced by Jessica Rivers and Scout’s own historian-in-residence, Stevie Wilson (author of our You Should Know columns). It should be fascinating, as Vancouver’s trials and tribulations during the 1930’s were quite unique, and have largely been untold. “The motivation for creating this documentary stems from a discernible lack of information regarding this specific history, as well as a desire to provide an accessible, entertaining, and educational film for not only history buffs, but for everyone.” The premiere takes place at The Bottleneck Bar (870 Granville Street) on Saturday, November 9th at 6pm. Entrance is by donation (pay what you can). Be sure to stick around after the screening for cocktails and music. See you there!
