Heading to the Sunshine Coast for the Long Weekend? Check Out These Two New Spots

Two of the latest openings in my neck of the woods bring great bread and pasta…

Buono Osteria

Taking the place of the town diner, The Waterfront Cafe, Buono is a beautiful new addition to Lower Gibsons. Italian isn’t easy to come by in these parts and judging by the nightly line at the bar, the Coast was ready. Classic standbys like the ‘Sunday Sauce’ (rigatoni in slow cooked tomato sauce with hefty meatballs) stand along side lighter touches such as Tuna Crudo with pink grapefruit, smoked olives and pistachios. The cocktail and wine lists are well planned AND well executed plus there is even a perfect vanilla crepe brûlée waiting for you at the finish line. If you enjoy ridiculously scenic rooms and a damn good meal, you’ll be very glad Buono has arrived.

Lone Wolf Bakery

Lone Wolf Bakery opens its incredibly fragrant doors every Tuesday through Saturday from 8am to 4pm, but if you need to get your hands on a loaf of their fantastic sourdough you’d best come early. They’re regularly selling out on the daily, and for good reason. Beyond the bread, two favourites are their perfectly tart lemon squared with flaky shortbread-y crust and giant butter croissants. As an added bonus they’re pulling Matchstick espresso (so now it feels like our commute to the city has gotten a wee bit shorter).

  1. The Lone Wolf Bakery truly is a little gem. The bread is to die for and well worth the early trip to make sure you get some. The young couple running the bakery are delightful. I hope them all the success they deserve

  2. The Lone Wolf Bakery is an asset to the Sunshine Coast – really excellent baked goods and coffee. Friendly service too. Highly recommended!

Taking a “Timeout” for Tequila

When I travel, I seek out places that reward curiosity, where you can eat your way through a neighbourhood and pick up on the culture without needing a guidebook. That’s why I quickly said "yes" when La Mezcaleria invited me to join their team trip to Jalisco, Mexico.
