New Donut Shop & Cafe Opening Soon in Chinatown

The alleyway-adjacent space between Propaganda Coffee and Umaluma on East Pender Street is fixing to become a sweet addition to the neighbourhood.

Mello, a new specialty donut shop and cafe, is opening soon at 223 East Pender Street. The concept is coming to us from Janice Lee, who was behind the good looking but short-loved (2015-17) UYU soft serve shop in Gastown.

Construction is currently underway on the 1,500 sqft space. The hope is to have the 20 seater open at some point in November.

Janice told me this afternoon that Mello’s donuts, baked goods and ice cream will all be made in-house, while the coffee will be coming from East Van’s own Agro Roasters. We hope to have more on the new project soon.

Losing chinatown & the DTES one shop at a time…..
