Training Wage | Mistake | Perhaps one of the most insidious, insulting initiatives from the BC Liberals was the $6/hour “training wage”. It was a secret handshake to corporations and a big “fuck you” to poor immigrants and those who were new to the labour force. Workers had to work 500 hours before “graduating” to minimum wage. Yeah, because it takes 500 hours to learn to press the buttons on the deep fryer at McDonalds. The training wage was eliminated in 2011.
